“To Be, or Not To Be!” – Exploring Local Theatre
Posted by Erica Holgate

“To Be, or Not To Be…That is the question!”
They are the most famous words in society when you think of theatre, aren’t they?
I’ve always been a fan of theatre. In fact, I loved it so much that I took theatre courses in University! But with the joys of growing up I’m currently at a “stage” in my life where my budget just doesn’t allow for long trips outside of my area to enjoy it. Wanting to continue to enjoy my passion for theatre, I started revisiting the idea of local theatre.
While attending highschool I had the pleasure of getting involved with the Pinnacle Playhouse. Living in Belleville, this is the closest theatre to my home. For 61 years it has housed the Belleville Theatre Guild. Each year they offer a vast array of shows, tailoring each season to be unique from the last. Their 61st season ahead is looking really intriguing with a variety of shows ranging from comedies to musicals!
On September 20th I attended the Belleville Theatre Guild Open House which highlights the entire season ahead. Each director gets a few actors together to do a portion of their show. While they all look fantastic, and I wish I could see them all right now, I have to be patient!
This month hosts the start of their season with The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde running from October 11th to October 27th.
For those of you that are looking for an extra bargain, you also have the ability to pay discounted prices for their preview shows. On the week of the show’s opening, the theatre offers a $5 preview show, which is another money saving option. Last night was the preview night for The Importance of Being Earnest, although the tickets are only $18 on a regular performance, which is still very affordable.
So, with the continually soaring gas prices, and the winter driving blues quickly approaching, it is the perfect time to explore your local theatrical culture! There is no need to drive hours to get professional entertainment when there is so much talent right around the corner.
You can visit the Belleville Theatre Guild website here for more information (which includes audition dates if there is a thespian in you!).
Look forward to seeing you there!
